The introduction of app building platforms has made creating an app easier than ever before. However, the difficulty lies in deciding, or figuring out which app building platform will suit your requirement the most. Each business has different needs, and thus, their app will also be targeting different users. But those days of indecision and never ending doubt are over. Shoutem is among those mobile app building platforms that come up with a whole lot of features which help you create just the right kind of app that you imagined.
And the best part is that you don’t need to write even a single line of code to create an app on using Shoutem. Their designing tool is amazingly easy to understand and user-friendly. And the moment you start working towards a great app, a hoard of features come along to pave your path and make things super easy for you. Be it a customer loyalty app or an e-commerce app, Shoutem does it all. Let’s take a look at Shoutem in detail, read along for our Shoutem review…
As long as you aren’t planning to publish your apps, create as many apps as you want. Sounds weird, right? Why would you create an app if you are not going to publish it? Here’s the thought: if you want are completely sure of your app, only then you should be publishing it. Till then, you can test your skills and create a lot of apps before thinking “this is the one should get published”. Then, by all means, go ahead, follow the simple signup procedure, and you are good to go.
However, you may feel the menu section could have been more user-friendly. As for now, adding features tends to become a confusing task. Getting a hold onto the interface takes time, and we think this is why Shoutem gave you the freedom to build a lot of apps.
Shoutem offers only 8 templates to choose from, which doesn’t even sound a sufficient number, not even “not massive”. And still we gave it 9 stars, you must be wondering. That’s because each template not only looks amazing, they also offer customizable background images, icons, and a lot of other elements. This makes each template stand unique and distinct from the other one. And they have also got a new Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) editor, so now Shoutem also offers more flexibility.
And just in case designing is not your forte, you can ask the designing team at Shoutem to help you out.
As you must have seen the website of Shoutem, they support only one language as for now: English. The app editor also supports only one language: English. But here’s a good thing, Shoutem allows you to translate all the readable content of the app from one language to another. However, if you want to create an app of a different language, then you’ll have to make an app for each language. One app, one language, not good; and hence, 7 stars.
The only e-ecommerce integration you get on Shoutem right now is a product catalog and/or Shopify. If you include a product catalog, your customers will only be able to view the product on the app. To buy it, they’ll have to go to the external link of the particular web-store.
Every business owner needs the social media integration feature on his/her app to make sure it is able to gather a good amount of popularity. Shoutem understand this requirement clearly and thus offers the major social media platforms to be integrated onto the app. Furthermore, business can also make podcasts, radio and event-related integrations on the app. When we talk about them, the two most common names are Eventbrite and Songkick.
With a comprehensive online support and video tutorials, Shoutem does come across with flying colors in terms of support function. Watching tutorial videos before beginning with app building is highly recommended, as it will give you a better idea on how to work around the editor.
Special mention goes to the Email support, which is quick in response and detailed enough to get you started with ease.
Shoutem app builder is known for its robustness and plethora of features. But the navigation doesn’t seem to be a fun factor at all, and sometimes, things turn from fun to frustrating in a jiffy.
Like most of the app building CMS available in the market, Shoutem also offers you the option to create apps for iOS and Android, and apps based on HTML5. But there’s a catch when it comes to making apps for iOS, if you want to make apps for iPad, you will need to sign up for the “Unlimited” plan. Furthermore, Blackberry and Windows platforms are not supported as for now.
- Ad Support: Available through MoPub and DFP.
- Push Notifications: Features segmented and scheduled push notifications. Not available in the ‘Basic’ plan.

Shoutem is indeed a great app building tool we it comes to non-coding type of app creation. Not all business owners know how programming, and thus, creating an app the conventional way may come around as a really tough nut to crack. And then there is the option to hire a programmer, which is not just expensive for a small business, but also leads to another issue. Hiring a developer will get you an app alright, but that is all there is to it. There would be no promotions, no publishing of the app, and absolutely no way that you would get a good ROI on your app. You’ve got your app, and that’s it.
However, there is a downside to Shoutem as well! You can’t opt for API access, or create iPad apps (not without unlimited plan subscription). And then there is the interface which is hard to comprehend. But all in all, Shoutem deserves a try from all the budding business owners. Especially those who like to try techie things on their own. Give it a try and let us know how you like
